In a world filled with social media and website facts, fiction and opinions, a handful of apartment properties in the Columbus-Phenix City area stand out as among the best in the nation in their customers’ eyes.

The top locally, according to the 2017 Online Reputation Assessment (ORA) scores and rankings compiled by J Turner Research, are Rock Island Ridges at Riverchase, a new complex overlooking the Chattahoochee River in Phenix City, and four of the Greystone properties in Columbus.

Top ranked in the local market is Rock Island Ridges at No. 73 in the U.S. because of its 94 assessment score. That’s out of 977 apartment communities across the country that allowed surveys of their residents, as well as online feedback gathered by J Turner Research on sites such as Facebook, Instagram and ApartmentRatings.com.

“We are very excited about it. It really speaks for our community and our residents,” said Ursula Trimiar, community manager at the 346-unit Rock Island Ridges, which opened about a year ago just off U.S. Hwy. 80 as it crosses from Phenix City into Columbus.

“We pay them a monthly fee to actually survey our residents. There are thousands of apartment communities across the United states that do the same,” said Trimiar of the research company and its “Elite 1%” for 2017. “Now everybody has learned how valuable it is to get customer feedback.”

For context, the average Online Reputation Assessment score among apartment properties nationwide is 59.7 percent. The states heavily represented in the “Elite 1%” of high-scoring complexes were Texas, Virginia, California, North Carolina and Florida.

“Through our exhaustive research of more than 71,000 properties across all review sites, a total of 977 properties earned the elite status,” Joseph Batdorf, president of Houston-based J Turner Research, wrote in an explainer of the criteria and process. “To be eligible for this ranking, a property had to register a minimum Online Reputation Assessment score of 88 and have at least 15 online reviews across various review sites.”

For example, on the Rock Island Ridges Facebook page, resident Casey Sowers Zipp wrote: “We have been living at Rock Island Ridges for almost 9 months and couldn't be more pleased! Great location, friendly staff, dog-friendly, and clean!”

The Greystone properties on the “Elite 1%” list are Greystone Farms Reserve on Blackmon Road, which ranked No. 87 with an Online Reputation Assessment score of 93; Greystone Farms, No. 222 with a score of 92; Greystone Falls, No. 277 with a score of 91; and Greystone at Columbus Park, No. 325 with a score of 91.

For properties with the same ORA score, the apartment community with the higher number of reviews ranked higher.

“Greystone Farms Reserve makes apartment living feel like home,” said a resident in mid-December. “Short term or long term, you're sure to feel safe and comfortable. From the layout of the apartments, the attentive staff, and friendly maintenance everything is well kept and nicely ran.”
