Something new is on the horizon for this vacant place on Broadway
A new country store and cafe will fill the vacancy on Broadway once filled by Mr. Ed’s on Broadway.
The name is Southern Roots Country Store and Cafe and it will serve ice cream, monster shakes and coffee. There’s another location in Phenix City at 4521 U.S. 80. The store teased the announcement of their second location on Facebook Friday.
Mr. Ed’s announced the business was closing in a Facebook post on Feb. 15.
“I wanna take a minute to say thank you to “ALL” of our regulars and new friends. All of you made every day special!” a portion of the Facebook post read.
Southern Roots will be occupying a building owned by Ernie Smallman, who on Tuesday said a new store was already in the works following Mr. Ed’s closing.
The addition of the second Southern Roots location adds to the growth of the Uptown area. Recently, WC Bradley announced a hotel is coming to the area.
