Pier 1 Imports to shutter all stores nationwide, including those in Chattahoochee Valley

Pier 1 Imports, specializing in home goods, will be closing all of its remaining stores across the United States, including two in the Chattahoochee Valley.

The Columbus location at 5555 Whittlesey Boulevard and the Auburn location at 1716 Opelika Road are among the more than 500 stores closing. On its website, Pier 1 cites the changing retail environment and uncertainty regarding the future due COVID-19 as reasons for the closures.

Pier 1 Imports’ website is expected to be operational through July 2020 and will offer the same going out of business sales as their brick-and-mortar counterparts.

Many stores across the country will be opening up on Friday, according to the company’s website, with others following suit in the coming weeks.

Sales will last up to 16 weeks, but customers are urged to shop online as soon as possible to have the best selection of items. Physical stores will implement a variety of social distancing procedures, including floor markings and signs, health screens for employees and a cap of 25 customers in the store at one time.
