Black residue, undated food, more: Columbus restaurant inspection scores from October
The Ledger-Enquirer has compiled a list of the best and worst health scores for Muscogee County restaurants during October 2021 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Most restaurants received an “A” grade with many receiving perfect scores.
No Muscogee County restaurants received a failing grade in the latest round of health scores.
Restaurants that scored a 100 include:
- Papa John’s Pizza at 4801 Buena Vista Road
- Starbucks at 7026 Ruffie Way
- Yummy Villa at 5295 Whittlesey Blvd.
- Mercy’s Jamaican Kitchen at 5753 Milgen Road
- Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant at 6517 Kitten Lake Drive
- I Love Juice Bar at 2521 Airport Thruway
- Buckhead Bar and Grill at 5010 Armour Road
- Ruby Tuesday at 3431 Manchester Expressway
- Waffle House at 5701 Milgen Road
Other dining scores dinged
Daiquiris and PoBoys, 3709 Gentian Blvd., received a score of 76 on Oct. 7. The inspector, April Kennedy, noted infractions like raw meat stored above ready-to-eat food.
Kennedy, according to the report, observed raw alligator meat and raw boudin meatballs stored in the reach-in cooler above ready-to-eat food items.
According to the report, food is to be stored in a manner that prevents cross contamination. An employee corrected the infraction by relocating the raw food below the ready-to-eat foods.
Kennedy also noted “numerous ready-to-eat time temperature control food items” that had been held in refrigeration for over 24 hours with no date labels. A follow-up on this violation, according to the report, would be conducted within 10 calendar days.
Additionally, Kennedy noted that there was no Certified Food Safety Manager certificate posted for public view, and there was no “designated person in charge” at the time of the inspection.
Saffron, 5300 Sidney Simons Blvd., received a score of 84 on Oct. 14. The inspector, Yashira Nieves, noted undated food and improper food storage.
Nieves observed raw, marinated chicken masala stored above ready-to-eat cooked chicken tandoori. An employee rearranged the units to prevent contamination.
Nieves also observed multiple ready-to-eat time temperature control food items stored over 24 hours lacking date markings. An employee corrected this by date marking the items, the report reads.
Macon Road Bar-B-Que, 2703 Avalon Rd., received a score of 83 on Oct. 27. The inspector, Sharonica Williams, observed improper hand washing, dirty equipment and more.
Williams observed black residue on the chute of an ice-producing machine located in the main kitchen. According to the report, this infraction must be corrected within 72 hours.
The facility’s hand washing sink, Williams noted, did not work. Employees had been using hand sinks in the restrooms. This infraction also must be corrected within 72 hours.
According to the report, an employee was observed washing dishes without chemical sanitizer, and the facility used “improper reheating procedures.” The report did not detail what the improper procedures were.
