Hollywood of the South. Movie and TV production facility coming to GA.
Countless award-winning movies and TV shows have been filmed in Georgia — from Fried Green Tomatoes to The Walking Dead, the Peach State is making a name for itself in film.
A new project in Atlanta could soon turn the city into the new Hollywood.
A $180 million, 53-acre BlueStar Studios film production facility will begin operation in 2023. It will have 18 stages, with more than 600,000 square feet of space and more than 100 GB of fiber lines for technical support.
The studio will be on the Fort Gillem Army Base campus in Forest Park. Fort Gillem served as the base for the First US Army from 1941 to 2011.
“Fort Gillem has long been a significant presence in our community, so we’re thrilled to see such a transformational development through this substantial investment,” said Forest Park Mayor Angelyne Butler. “BlueStar Studios preserves the charm and history of the surrounding area while also bringing new production capabilities and boosting our local economy.”
In addition to the stages and production offices, the facility plan also includes a cafe, trails and a dog run. It will be conveniently located 10 minutes from the Atlanta airport.
Georgia has set blockbuster records for direct spending within the state; last year alone, the state brought in $4 billion with more than 360 productions filmed.
“With an industry-leading film tax credit, a ready workforce and a business-friendly attitude, Georgia is perfectly positioned to continue attracting more productions and the jobs they will support,” said Georgia House of Representatives Speaker David Ralston. “Our continuing success is a testament to what can happen when the public and private sector work together to expand economic opportunity in every corner of our great state.”
Currently, there are more than 50 productions being filmed in Georgia, including “Single Drunk Female,” (season 2) “Fear The Walking Dead” (Season 8), Holiday Road and Kemba. For more current projects, visit the Now Filming Page on Georgia USA’s website.
