Upscale market coming to Midtown will feature choice steaks, high-end wine and more
Two Columbus families are working together to open an upscale market and spirits store next summer.
Co-owners Drew and Liz Godwin and Johnson and Crystal Trawick plan to open Midtown Provisions on Wynnton Road across from Aflac and next to Dinglewood Pharmacy in the summer of 2023. Midtown Provisions joins Golden Donut with plans to open along Wynnton Road next year.
The store will have two sections, a market that includes a butcher shop and a high-end spirits store. Some of the types of meat Midtown Provisions’ butcher shop will be able to offer include prime and top choice steaks, ribeye, New York strips, dry aged products, Drew told the Ledger-Enquirer.
“We’ll be able to custom order anything you want and get it within a day or two,” he said. “Elk, rattlesnake, caribou — you name it, we can get it.”
Other items that the market side of the store will sell include cheeses, charcuterie boards, fresh pasta sauces, and other provisions people may need for dinner. The store will also work with local providers and chefs to offer pre-prepared dinners, such as casseroles and chicken pot pies, that customers can warm up in the oven.
On the other side of Midtown Provisions, customers will be able to choose from among a variety of higher-end spirits, Drew said. Some of the products include craft beers, high-end wines and harder to find bourbons, he said.
“Yes, you’ll be able to come in and get your Coors Light or Miller Lite,” Drew said. “But there’s a very limited selection of that.”
Midtown Provisions will not have beer advertisements covering the windows, neon lights or sell cigarettes or lottery tickets, Johnson told the L-E. The store will not look like a liquor store, he said.
Liz, who is an interior designer, plans to make the space have a clean, but modern look that will make it easy for customers to find items, she said. The goal is to ensure the focus is on the product.
There will be some structural changes to the building, Drew and Johnson said. The main entrance of the store will be moved to the side of the building off of the parking lot, Drew said. And a sidewalk will be extended to connect to Dinglewood Pharmacy’s parking lot, Johnson said.
Both the Godwin and Trawick families live in Midtown, and they look forward to working with the other members of their community.
“We have a lot of friends that are also small business owners,” Crystal said. “And so for us, it’s important to support their efforts as well.”
The hours of operation may change based on when customers are coming to the store, Johnson said, but the plan is for the store to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“This is going to be a fine store that I think people in this neighborhood will be proud of being around the corner from them,” Johnson said.
