American Airlines is ending service to the Columbus Airport this spring, multiple media outlets are reporting.

The announcement comes less than two years since the airline returned to Columbus after its last exit.

Besides Columbus, the travel blog viewfromthewing.com reports America Airlines also is eliminating service to two other cities, Long Beach, California, and Del Rio, Texas. American said the moves are in response to soft demand and a regional pilot shortage.

“We’re extremely grateful for the care and service our team members provided to our customers in these cities,” an airline spokesman told the blog, “and are working closely with them during this time. We’ll proactively reach out to customers scheduled to travel to offer alternate arrangements.”

Eight American Airlines-affiliated planes depart daily from Columbus, Del Rio and Long Beach, Fox Business reported, adding that American Airlines has dropped 19 cities from its routes since the beginning of the pandemic.

American has previously flown to Columbus from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the travel site thepointsguy.com reported.

American had restarted service to Columbus in 2021 after leaving several years earlier. The Columbus Airport will still be served by Delta Connection, a part of Delta Airlines.
