Which new restaurant that opened in 2022 is Columbus most excited about? Vote in Week 2

Mothers & Sons’ dining room – a narrow space framed in weathered wood floors, molded tin ceilings, banquettes along one wall and a small, well-stocked bar on the other – sets a warmly welcoming Old World trattoria mood that’s well-suited to the menu.

After last week’s poll received more than 8,000 votes, the Ledger-Enquirer is again asking readers to tell us which new restaurant readers are most excited about.

New restaurants were opening up all over Columbus, Phenix City and the surrounding areas last year, and we’re expanding this contest into Week 2 with four more restaurants. There will be three weeks of voting featuring 12 restaurants, and the winners from each week will then go head-to-head in a final round.

There were 8,154 votes cast in last week’s poll with It’s Tamale Time coming out on top with 64% of the vote. The Phenix City-based tamale shop will be moving on the final round.

Here’s some details about the four restaurants featured in this second week of voting:

  • Big Mama Vietnam Kitchen opened in August 2022 on Sidney Simons Boulevard. The family-owned restaurant features recipes passed down through the generations.

  • Fiesta Mexican Bar and Grill opened on Warm Springs Road in October 2022 with a large, diverse menu that owner Miguel Gonzalez hopes will appeal to wide range of customers.
  • Millhouse Kitchen and Bar is part of a development that preserved a historic building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. It opened its doors in late December and features a twist on southern cuisine.
  • Vicky’s Soul Food 2 is the second location for the Columbus business owner who chose the Harris County location after seeing a need when she worked in hospice. Customers can order traditional soul food meals.

Vote in this poll, and come back next week for another round of voting with different restaurants. It’s up to our readers to decide which new restaurant will have the bragging rights. This poll is not scientific, and you can vote as many times as you would like between now and when the poll closes Wednesday at noon.

If you have a restaurant that opened in 2022 and would like to be included in future rounds of this poll, please contact us at bmcgee@ledger-enquirer.com
