The popular Harris County restaurant Luke’s Pub and Steakhouse has closed its doors permanently after shutting down earlier this year because of problems with its septic system.

Bobby Noland owned and operated Luke’s for the last 27 years in Ellerslie. The restaurant’s menu had a large variety with steak, pot roast, salads and seafood. It’s located in Ellerslie on Georgia Highway 85 near the restaurant Eighty-Five, formerly Tricky Dick’s Oyster Bar.

“I have been given memories that will last a lifetime,” Noland wrote in a July 27 Facebook post. “I have seen 2-3 generations of families walk through the doors over the years. I hope that I met each of you with a smile.”

Luke’s announced a temporary closure in March in a Facebook post explaining the restaurant needed to replace the septic system to meet county codes. The restaurant’s location made the changes difficult and timely because a special type of system was required, according to the March 21 post.

In the months after announcing the temporary closure, Luke’s ran fundraisers on GoFundMe and sold t-shirts in an effort to save the brick and mortar location. Last week, the restaurant announced the property and building were up for sale, and refunding those who donated to the GoFundMe campaign.

“We have run into some troublesome times — one brick wall after another,” Noland wrote in his post. “I have tried my best and given it all I can, however, Luke’s Pub under my ownership is no more.”

The pub could continue to exist under new ownership, he said, and the future owner has the opportunity to turn the location “into the place of their dreams.”

Next move is...

Despite the closing of the brick and mortar restaurant, Noland is not giving up on the food industry, he said in the post. He intends to continue serving the community with a food trailer called “Luke’s on the Run”.

“You will still be able to get your fix of snakebites, steak sandwiches and other delicious items,” he wrote.

More information about the food trailer will be released on Facebook as the business develops, Noland said.

“I worked hard to make this place feel like a home away from home to everyone that passed through,” he said. “I thank the Lord above for these blessings, and I couldn’t have done it without the people of this incredible community.”
