Epperly Tire changes ownership: grand opening Monday for Phenix City store

The Epperly Tire and Auto Centers location in Phenix City will have its official grand opening and ribbon cutting 9:30 a.m. Monday, with the local chain recently having changed ownership.

The auto shop at 5370 River Chase Drive, near the intersection of Summerville Road, opened in late August. That was just as Columbus businessman David Epperly was selling the four-store local business to Birmingham, Ala.-based businessman Ricky Brooks.

Brooks operates Express Oil Change & Service Center LLC, as well as Tire Engineers Car Care Centers.

“They actually purchased the Epperly name,” Roy Hammock, manager of the Phenix City store, said Friday. That means the name should stay the same at that location, as well as the Epperly Tire and Auto stores in Columbus at 2041 Auburn Ave., 1642 Whittlesey Road and 7608 Schomburg Road.

Epperly launched his tire and auto business in 1989.

Hammock said the grand opening Monday will include breakfast for customers, along with a 10 percent discount on service work. He has been with Epperly Tire 21 years, moving from the Schomburg Road store to the River Chase location to start it up.
