New coffee shop and cafe opens in Columbus a stone’s throw from the Chattahoochee River

those near the Chattahoochee River in Columbus have another option for local coffee shops.

The Seed Coffee and Cafe, located at The Rapids on Front Avenue, opened this week for its first full week of serving coffee, sandwiches and more to the Columbus community.

Chris Helms, who owns the restaurant with his wife Sydney, said they felt the location was the prime spot for an expansion of their other restaurant, The Mustard Seed in Phenix City.

“A lot of people to serve, an awesome location by the river, and just want to continue what we’ve been doing over there over here,” Helms said.

When asked what prompted them to start the business at The Rapids, he said, “This is a beautiful part of Columbus that’s just up and coming and there’s a lot of people that I think could use our service here.”

The Seed has sandwiches, soups and salads, but its main focus is their coffee.

“Just about any kind of coffee you could want, we’ve got it,” Helms said.

Helms said the coffee served at The Seed comes from a local Columbus roaster, Gypsy Goat Coffee.

Helms told the Ledger-Enquirer his favorite menu items are a latte with no flavoring and a salmon bagel that comes with dill cream cheese, salmon, capers, onions and everything bagel seasoning.

The location is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Helms.
