Sunday business: TSYS awards $100,000 in scholarships to children of employees
TSYS Future Scholars Foundation, through the contributions of team members and friends of TSYS, has awarded $100,000 in scholarships for 2015 to 69 students in the U.S.
The Columbus-based company said 55 of the 69 scholars are from the Chattahoochee Valley area, including Marisa Nunez, daughter of Ellen Nunez, who is the Richard W. Ussery Scholar, an honor bestowed upon the student receiving the highest cumulative score from the judges.
The TSYS Future Scholars Program represents TSYS' commitment to support higher education for the children of TSYS team members in the United States, the company said. The scholarship is designed to reward well-rounded students who strive for high academic achievement, devote time to worthwhile extracurricular activities and are involved in meaningful community service.
Established in 2008 after TSYS' spin-off from Synovus Financial Corp., the foundation has awarded 439 scholarships totaling $636,650. Individual gifts, division and department fundraisers, and corporate-sponsored activities allow TSYS to fund scholarships.
Scholarship recipients are judged in six categories -- leadership, awards and honors, community service, well-rounded involvement in activities, career goals, and academic ability. Scholarship amounts vary and may be applied toward a bachelor's degree or an associate degree at an accredited college, university or vocational institution located within the United States.
