Designed prominent Columbus buildings for 60 years. Now this firm has a new name
A renowned architectural firm in Columbus has been sold.
Hecht Burdeshaw Architects Inc. has been acquired by McMillan Pazden Smith Architecture (MPS), a Southeast regional firm headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina. The companies made the joint announcement through a news release Monday.
“We feel great alignment between firms,” Jeff Harper, vice president at Hecht Burdeshaw, who will serve as the MPS Columbus Studio Director, said in the news release. “Advancing HBA as part of MPS positions our firm for a resilient and successful future.”
Hecht Burdeshaw’s leadership and 19 team members will remain on staff, according to the news release. Brendan Blowers, communications director at the MPS, confirmed to the Ledger-Enquirer that the Hecht Burdeshaw studio will remain in Columbus. Blowers also confirmed that Hecht Burdeshaw’s name now is MPS Columbus.
“Hecht Burdeshaw’s commitment to teamwork and client service reflects the MPS purpose and core values,” MPS CEO Chad Cousins said in the news release. “We are excited to invest and add further value to the Columbus and Auburn-Opelika region together.”
Hecht Burdeshaw has been operating in Columbus for over 60 years and has been a key player in the city’s development. Some of the firm’s notable projects include the Chattahoochee Riverwalk, the Synovus Technology Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, Columbus Technical College and many K-12 Muscogee County schools, according to their website.
