The other Phenix City Piggly Wiggly stores are listed as alternative locations to shop on the closure announcement.

Why is the 13th Street Piggly Wiggly closing in Phenix City?

JTM Corporation said the closure decision came after “several years of financial challenges” at the location. Continued operating costs, significant equipment replacement needs and lease uncertainty are among the key factors in the decision, the company said.

“This was not an easy decision,” Keith Milligan, a co-owner of JTM Corporation, said in the news release. “We are incredibly grateful to the customers who have supported this store for nearly four decades. Serving this community has meant a great deal to our family.”

Milligan said the 20 employees at the 13th Street location have been offered positions at the other nearby Piggly Wiggly stores.
