Little Caesars brings back exclusive Mountain Dew flavor
Is pizza beginning to lose its luster? After more than 300 years as one of America's favorite comfort foods, the answer is a strong maybe.
Pizzerias were once the most popular restaurant type in the U.S., but they're now outnumbered by coffee shops and Mexican restaurants, the Wall Street Journal says. It's estimated that pizza industry revenue fell by 0.3% in 2025, according to PMQ Pizza's 2026 Pizza Power Report.
The shift comes down to health trends, rising prices, and a general shift in consumer preferences.
"Pizza is disrupted right now," Papa John's CFO Ravi Thanawala told the WSJ. "That's what the consumer tells us."
In an effort to bring back diners, pizza chains are trying all sorts of tactics. Domino's is working on innovative new recipes, Pizza Hut is launching a generous new rewards program, and now Little Caesars is leaning into limited-time offers.
Little Caesars is bringing back viral Mountain Dew flavor
In early May, Little Caesars announced it would be bringing back its exclusive Mountain Dew Mango Rush flavor for summer 2026.
Mountain Dew Mango Rush made its debut last year, and quickly became a fan favorite. The soda gained traction thanks to reviews on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. It was so popular that the pizza chain completely sold out, and fans petitioned to make it a permanent part of the menu.
"Mountain Dew Mango Rush was a top-performing launch in 2025," PepsiCo Away From Home Chief Marketing Officer Scott Finlow said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "This partnership with Little Caesars focuses on delivering bold, unexpected flavor profiles that resonate with our core consumers… We are excited to give fans another chance to enjoy the refreshing mango twist."
This time around, Little Caesars is adding something extra to the drop - crazy puffs.
For $4.99 diners can get the Crazy Puff Crave Combo, a four-pack of bite-sized crazy puffs and a 16-ounce can of the viral Mountain Dew Mango Rush.
"At Little Caesars, we're always looking for ways to bring our customers even more irresistible flavor at an incredible value," Little Caesars Chief Marketing Officer Greg Hamilton said. "That's why we're thrilled to be bringing back Mountain Dew Mango Rush with the ultimate deal by pairing with our Crazy Puffs at an unbeatable price."
Mountain Dew Mango Rush will return to Little Caesars on May 18, 2026, and will remain in stores until supplies last.
Why fast food chains are obsessed with limited-time offers
In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of limited-time offers (LTOs) at quick service chains.
In an era where fast food spending is on the decline, restaurants are relying on them to drive sales. Some 91% of diners say they are more likely to visit a chain if they provide LTOs, according to a report from Circana.
"As heavy buyers naturally fade, LTOs emerge as tactical approaches to maintain engagement and boost spending," the report reads.
These blink-and-you-miss-it offers work so well because they play into consumers' fear of missing out, or FOMO.
"We live in a very instantaneous society now," Full Plate Restaurant Consulting founder Joan Simon told Business Insider. "If somebody knows that there's only one week for this special offer, they're more likely to act quickly."
The goal isn't just to drive short-term sales, but to position a restaurant as relevant and worth repeat visits thanks to its ever-evolving offerings.
FOMO has also been shown to increase long-term spending and loyalty program signups. On average, FOMO increases spending by 20% and signups by 25%, according to market research company Gitnux.
With fast food traffic slowing and pizza competition growing, Little Caesars is betting that this viral summertime offering will be enough to spark that FOMO and give it an edge over competitors.
Other fast food limited-time offers
Little Caesars isn't the only quick service chain running a limited-time offer this spring. Other notable LTOs include:
- Popeye's "One Piece" lineup, launched April 13 & runs until supplies last
- Red Lobster's all-you-can-eat shrimp, runs April 20 to June 28, 2026
- Burger King's "Mandalorian"-themed menu, launched May 4 & runs until supplies last
- McDonald's"Stranger Things" Happy Meal, launched May 5 & runs until supplies last
- Cracker Barrel's ‘90s Campfire Meals, launched May 5, no end date specified
