Overview
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is a full-size luxury SUV with three rows of seating, positioned as the brand's flagship, and competing against the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, and Lincoln Navigator. Three configurations span the lineup, from the mild hybrid inline-six GLS 450 and V8 GLS 580 to the handcrafted AMG GLS 63 with a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 603 horsepower.
All three models have standard 4Matic all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic, with the AMG variant running AMG Performance 4Matic+ for variable rear torque distribution. Seven-passenger seating across three rows makes the GLS a practical choice for larger households that want luxurious interior appointments.
What's New for 2025?
The 2025 GLS carries over from its comprehensive 2024 mid-cycle refresh with a focused set of additions. A biometric fingerprint sensor is now standard across all models, while several new Manufaktur special-order exterior paint colors expand the personalization catalog.
Three new Nappa leather interior selections join the build options, and a Manufaktur Signature Interior Package adds Nappa leather, head-restraint pillows, and high-pile Mercedes-star floor mats as a standalone option. The AMG GLS 63 gains AMG crests on the headrests as a new detail. No mechanical, structural, or tech changes for the model year.
Exterior
At about 205 inches in length with a 123.4-inch wheelbase, the GLS is large, albeit without appearing ungainly, helped by an arrival-announcing chrome-framed grille that's flanked by adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams. A panoramic moonroof with a power mesh sun screen and a hands-free power liftgate are standard across the lineup. The GLS 450 rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, the GLS 580 steps up to 22-inch AMG units, and the AMG GLS 63 wears sport-specific wheels. Optional 23-inch AMG wheels are offered across both non-AMG models as well.
Interior
Dual 12.3-inch displays form a continuous dashboard surface running MBUX with augmented-reality navigation, natural voice control, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Upholstery steps up across the lineup, with the GLS 450 in MB-Tex synthetic leather and four-zone climate control, the GLS 580 adding genuine leather, massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, and five-zone climate control, and the AMG GLS 63 distinguishing its cabin further with an AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG crests on the headrests.
A 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system is standard throughout, with an optional 29-speaker High-End 3D configuration. All three rows accommodate adults without the compression common in rival three-row configurations, with cargo measuring 17.4 cubic feet behind the third row and expanding to a massive 84.7 cubic feet with both rear rows folded.
Price Range and Best Value Trim
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class's price spans three models across a $60,300 range. The GLS 450 delivers the most balanced ownership proposition, pairing its 375-horsepower mild hybrid six with air suspension, Burmester audio, and a comprehensive driver-assistance suite.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- The AMG GLS 63's claimed 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds is unmatched in the segment
- All three rows genuinely accommodate adult passengers
- Standard air suspension in all models delivers ride refinement that outpaces most rivals
Cons
- Powertrain coverage trails the competition
- No complimentary maintenance is included, while rivals like BMW offer the same on the X7
- AMG GLS 63 is a fuel guzzler
Verdict
The 2025 GLS-Class holds the benchmark position in its segment primarily on the strength of its three-row usability, air suspension refinement, and MBUX technology package. The base GLS 450 is the rational choice, pairing 375 horsepower and 21 mpg combined with a cabin that exceeds any competitor. The GLS 580 adds genuine V8 performance and elevated interior appointments, though the price step-up requires justification. The AMG GLS 63's incredible performance for a seven-seat SUV is commendable, and for buyers who want that kind of performance from their large SUV alongside the flagship's practicality, it's a worthy choice.
