Nissan Kicks Recall Warns Drivers Could Lose Speedometer Display
Nissan has issued a recall for over 50,000 Kicks crossovers due to driver's display screens that could go blank. If this happens, the driver won't have visibility over vehicle speed and other crucial information, which could result in the vehicle being operated in an unsafe state. Nissan first became aware of the issue in February 2025, and following a supplier analysis, decided to initiate a voluntary recall. When the issue occurs, the vehicle may fail to meet a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Here's everything Kicks owners need to know.
Nissan Kicks Driver's Display Recall
The issue affects certain 2025 and 2026 Nissan Kicks models, with a total of 51,598 crossovers being recalled. According to Nissan, no other models (including Infiniti) are affected, as the issue is specific to the Combination Meter Display Unit in the Kicks.
"On affected Nissan Kicks vehicles, a software logic error within the Combination Meter (combi-meter) may cause a communication failure between the graphic controller and the automotive controller Integrated Circuits," states the recall report. "As a result, during a cold start-up, the combi-meter could display a partial or fully blank screen."
Without full use of the driver's display screen, Kicks owners may not be able to tell if a warning light is illuminated. This could result in the car being operated in an unsafe condition that could increase the chances of a crash. The recall report states that there may be no warning signs before the screen goes completely or partially blank.

What Owners Should Do Now
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 1, 2026. To fix the issue, customers will need to take their Nissan Kicks to a dealer for a software update, a job that could take up to 30 minutes. Nissan's customer service number is 800-647-7261, which can be used to find out more information about the recall. You can also use your Vehicle Identification Number to see if your model is affected by the recall on the NHTSA's website.
Although the Kicks is still drivable with a blank display screen, this can be dangerous if the vehicle's speed or a potential warning light isn't visible. It may be possible to get around this by using Google Maps to at least show vehicle speed, until the software update can be completed.
Blank digital gauge clusters have plagued several automakers this year, including Toyota, Kia, Ram, Jeep, and Mercedes-Benz. Reliable vehicle software has been a challenge for many of the industry's biggest automakers, and these have affected everything from budget cars like the Kicks to high-end luxury models.
