Ford recalls over 288K vehicles. See the affected model

Ford Motor Company is recalling over 288,000 vehicles which is stemming from a concern that could increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall notice posted this week by the agency says that certain vehicles' roof rail covers may detach, resulting in a road hazard.

Per the safety recall report, the warning signs include "increased wind noise and/or squeaks and rattles as the roof rail cover begins to loosen," and "a visible gap or misalignment between the roof rail cover and the roofline may develop."

Which model is included in the Ford recall?

According to the NHTSA, 288,314 vehicles are potentially affected by this issue. The following model is included:

  • 2016-2019 Ford Explorer

The recall number is 26S54.

What are the next steps for car owners?

Car owners are advised to take their vehicle to the dealership, where the roof rail covers will be inspected and repaired if necessary at no charge.

Initial notification letters will be sent out on Aug. 24, and another addressing the remedy will be mailed in September.
