On the Move: Dr. George Zimmerman becomes president of American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics
Dr. George Zimmerman of Columbus was recently elected the 74th president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.
The organization's inaugural event took place at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colo. The AOAO is the national association for osteopathic orthopedic surgeons, with a membership of nearly 2,000 actively practicing physicians.
Zimmerman has more than 23 years of orthopedic surgical experience. At one time, he was chief of rthopaedics at Fort Benning's Martin Army Community Hospital. He now chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and director of the Total Joint Service at St. Francis Hospital in Coluimbus. He's also president of the St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute.
Zimmerman's journey to presidential leadership of the AOAO has included a 10-year commitment to their board. He has served as director, secretary and treasurer, and most recently was vice president.
