Chicken processor AlaTrade to recruit workers Thursday at Columbus Career Center

Chicken processing company AlaTrade Foods needs more workers for its poultry plant in Phenix City.

The company, which operates at 6 Downing Drive in Phenix Industrial Park off U.S. Hwy. 431, will be recruiting people 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Columbus Career Center, 700 Veterans Parkway, the Georgia Department of Labor said Monday. It did not say how many workers are needed.

AlaTrade is looking to fill a number of jobs, including shoulder cutters, tender pullers, wing rollers, frame scrappers and tender clippers. Experience isn’t necessary, the department said, because the company will train those it hires for the jobs that start at $7.45 per hour. Pay increases to $7.75 per hour after 30 days on the job.

There are a few requirements for the positions, however. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and two pieces of identification are required. That can be a driver’s license and a Social Security card. A basic high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) is “preferred,” the company said, but not mandatory.

The labor department said it will speed up the interview process if those going to the job recruitment create an account and put their resume online in advance at www.employgeorgia.com.

AlaTrade opened its Phenix City processing plant in 2007. The company, founded in 2000, has its headquarters and another plant in Boaz, Ala., and another facility in Albertville, Ala. The Phenix City location typically employs several hundred people.
