Alloy wheel maker Borbet Alabama to recruit in Columbus Tuesday, needs 30 workers
German auto parts manufacturer Borbet Alabama needs about 30 workers for its plant in Auburn, Ala., and it will be recruiting next week in Columbus.
The company will be taking applications and talking with prospective employees 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at the Columbus Career Center, 700 Veterans Parkway, the Georgia Department of Labor said Wednesday.
The Auburn factory, which makes aluminum alloy wheels, is located at 979 Veterans Blvd., inside Auburn Technology Park North off Interstate 85. Positions include industrial and mechanical engineers, maintenance supervisors and technicians, manufacturing supervisors and shift-production supervisors, the department said.
Basic criteria include having a high school diploma or GED and being at least 18 years old. Those attending are urged to “dress appropriately” for meeting a potential employer. The department said setting up an account with a resume at www.employgeorgia.com will speed up the interview process.
It was in 2008 that Hallenberg-Hesborn, Germany-based Borbet purchased the ATS Light Alloy Wheels Alabama plant in Auburn, at the time retaining more than 200 workers. It remains the company’s only U.S. location, with Borbet having a major presence in Germany and facilities in Austria and South Africa. The manufacturer loosely dates to the start of a German foundry in 1881, although it began expanding more aggressively in the 1960s.
