Labor department having business summit June 15 at Columbus Technical College
An event coming up in Columbus on June 15 should be on many, if not most, business owners’ schedules.
It will be the third year for a business summit called “Employers in the Know,” with it taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Columbus Technical College on Manchester Expressway.
Organized by the Georgia Department of Labor, the Columbus gathering is one of a dozen across the state, with Labor Commissioner Mark Butler scheduled to be here. He will talk about the department’s efforts to promote growth of jobs and overall economic development throughout Georgia.
“We began holding these seminars because employers throughout the state told us they needed better access to information,” Butler said. “At these seminars, the employers get up-to-date information and the opportunity to network with other employers. And, as a state agency, we get value from hearing directly from the employers, so we can improve and better serve them.”
The event, co-sponsored by the Columbus Employer Committee, also will include information on a variety of topics that local business people could use in launching, operating and expanding a venture. That includes employment and legal issues, labor laws, unemployment insurance and the virtually mandatory need to use social media for promoting a business to realize more exposure and profits.
The cost to attend the summit is $40 per person, but only if you register by June 8. It jumps to $50 after that, with those wishing to attend also able to register at the door the day of the event. To pre-register, visit online at www.dol.georgia.gov, look for the “Spotlight” section and click on the link to “2016 Regional Business Summits.”
Anyone with questions can email Isaac.williams@gdol.ga.gov or call 404-274-9110.
The summit will take place in Room P-202 inside Carl Patrick Hall at the college at 928 Manchester Expressway.
So if you have a chance, check out the business summit. It should be money very well spent.
