St. Francis Emory Healthcare has sold its Columbus Clinic, 610 19th St., to a medical organization headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida.

Millennium Physician Group, one of the largest independent physician groups in the Southeast United States, is expanding to western Georgia by integrating Columbus Clinic into their system.

The clinic will be renamed from “St. Francis Columbus Clinic” to “Millennium Physician Group of Georgia, Columbus Clinic.” The deal is scheduled to be complete April 1.

“Millennium would like to acknowledge St. Francis’ vision for a healthier Columbus in this process,” Kimmie Zeller, manager of culture & communications at Millennium Healthcare, said in a statement emailed to the Ledger-Enquirer. “St. Francis leadership has been a great partner in exploring the combination of our teams, and we could not be more excited to work closely with them to improve patient care in Columbus in noticeable and meaningful ways.”

St. Francis Emory did not answer the Ledger-Enquirer’s requests to comment on why they decided to sell the clinic No official at St. Francis or Millennium would disclose the purchase price..

Grant Farrimond, director of marketing and communications at St. Francis-Emory, told the Ledger-Enquirer the sale to Millenium came after a long search process.

“After an extensive regional search, Millennium Healthcare provided the best resources, plan and vision for the Columbus Clinic moving forward,” Farrimond said in an email. “The talented group of physicians and clinicians at the Columbus Clinic will continue their community-based healthcare approach to improve the health and wellness of those they serve.”

Millennium has 150 locations across Florida, Texas and North Carolina. The Columbus Clinic will be their first location in Georgia and will become their “initial anchor office” for their Georgia expansion, Zeller said.

“The partnership amongst St Francis, the physicians of Columbus Clinic, and Millennium forms the initial foundation for Millennium Physician Group of Georgia, which will seek to expand primary care access across the area,” Zeller said.

No changes in doctors, nurses and other staff will happen under this agreement, Zeller said, noting that patients should not “experience disruption” to their care.
