New coronavirus cases confirmed in Muscogee, Harris counties. Here’s our local total.
The Georgia Department of Public Health’s West Central Health District Monday confirmed new cases of the novel coronavirus in Muscogee, Harris and Macon counties.
Muscogee County has four cases of COVID-19, up from the previously reported two. Harris and Macon counties have their first confirmed cases. Of these newly reported cases, the two in Muscogee County were confirmed from samples taken at the West Central Health District’s collection site in Columbus, said Pamela Kirkland, spokesperson for the West Central Health District.
Those confirmed results were not included on the Georgia Department of Public Health’s noon statewide update, but the number should appear in the state’s 7 p.m. update, Kirkland said.
In addition to the newly reported cases, Sumter County remained at two cases and Randolph at one.
There are now nine total cases of the novel coronavirus in the West Central District, which includes Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster counties.
Other counties close to Columbus but outside of its health district are also reporting cases. Troup County has four confirmed cases.
As of noon Monday, Georgia reported 772 confirmed cases and 25 deaths related to COVID-19.
