A second Ft. Benning solider has tested positive for coronavirus, officials confirm
A fifth COVID-19 case related to Fort Benning has been confirmed as a second soldier has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, officials said Friday.
Martin Army Community Hospital received the positive test results from Tricare Network Lab on Thursday.
Officials said the individual has been in self-quarantine at an on-post residence since March 14 and has followed all protective measures outlined by the Centers for Disease Control.
Martin Army notified the soldier’s unit and is working to determine and notify any potentially impacted personnel.
Anyone found to have had contact with the soldier will be notified to isolate in their homes, according to current CDC guidelines.
As of noon Friday, Muscogee County reported 8 cases of COVID-19. This case will count toward the county’s total. The state Department of Public Health reports a total of 2,001 COVID-19 cases and 64 deaths in Georgia.
