Army to delay basic training for future soldiers
The U.S. Army has temporarily stopped sending future soldiers to basic training, including those scheduled to report to the Maneuver Center of Excellence’s one-station unit training brigades, effective April 6.
Those who are currently in training at Fort Benning, and other Army posts, will continue training under the screening and monitoring guidelines established in March.
This is a two-week tactical pause to ensure the continuation of the appropriate safety measures are operating effectively at training installations for future soldiers.
Two law enforcement workers test positive for coronavirus in Columbus
A Columbus police officer and a Muscogee County reserve deputy have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Police Chief Ricky Boren said the officer has been at home and under a physician’s care. The chief declined to identify the employee or say to which division the person was assigned.
Georgia reports more than 7,500 cases
The Georgia Department of Public Health at 7 p.m. Monday confirmed 7,558 cases of COVID-19 in the state, up by 244 from the last update at noon Monday.
Georgia Power’s suspension of disconnects to continue during COVID-19 pandemic
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the state, Georgia Power’s suspension of disconnections is being extended following a vote by the Georgia Public Service Commission.
The company originally announced it would suspend disconnects in mid-March for at least 30 days to assist customers through this challenging time. Tuesday’s vote extends the decision beyond the original time frame, assuring customers that the suspension of disconnects will remain in place as the pandemic continues to impact customers in the state.
