Where to get free COVID-19 test this weekend
The West Central Health District is offering free COVID-19 testing in the Columbus Civic Center parking lot, 400 4th Street, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free testing is also available at the Columbus Health Department on 2100 Comer Avenue Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Piedmont Healthcare participating in remdesivir expanded access program
Piedmont Healthcare is participating in the FDA’s expanded access program for the antiviral drug remdesivir, which was granted emergency use authorization May 1. The drug was shown in a clinical trial to shorten the recovery time in some COVID-19 patients, according to a release from the hospital system.
The program is available for patients at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Piedmont Columbus Regional-Midtown and may be expanded to other Piedmont hospitals. Previously, Piedmont participated in the FDA’s compassionate use program for remdesivir.
Columbus officials planning on budget shortfalls due to COVID-19
Columbus leaders are currently facing a new hurdle as a result of the coronavirus pandemic: dealing with the financial ramifications of weeks of shuttered businesses and shelter-in-place orders.
Columbus Consolidated Government is currently working to adopt a budget for fiscal year 2021, which starts July 1, amid the financial uncertainty caused by the virus.
