24 hours. 700 new coronavirus cases. Here’s the county-by-county breakdown in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed 38,283 cases of COVID-19 in the state Monday at 7 p.m., an increase of 373 cases from the health department’s 9 a.m. update.

There was an increase of 731 new cases reported in the state from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday.

The health department confirmed 37,552 cases of COVID-19 Sunday evening, a decrease of 149 cases from Sunday morning. The decrease was attributed to an error by the Georgia Department of Public Health that caused 231 antibody testing results to be added to the state’s positive cases.

“The error was corrected, but it caused a decrease in positive cases between reporting periods on our dashboard. We apologize for the error and the confusion,” the state health department said in a statement on Twitter.

Statewide, 1,649 people have now died from the novel coronavirus, an increase of 37 since 9 a.m.

As of May 17, 1,010 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Georgia, according to Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory and private labs have performed 364,289 coronavirus tests as the state continues to increase its testing capacity.

State health officials have not provided a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county. The state is also not tracking the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19.

For 2,216 cases, the state is reporting the counties as “unknown.” The person may be homeless, or medical professionals may not have entered the person’s county of residence into the state’s electronic database, health officials have previously said.

The state health department also reported that 1,649 non-Georgia residents tested positive for COVID-19. State health officials previously said these numbers account for out-of-state residents whose healthcare provider is located in Georgia.
