More than 2,300 coronavirus cases confirmed in Columbus, surrounding area

Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 2,339 coronavirus cases in the 1 p.m. Monday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Between 1 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday, 41 new cases were reported in the 18-county area around Columbus. There are now a total of 126 coronavirus-related deaths reported.

Here’s a breakdown by county of total cases, deaths and hospitalizations:

  • Muscogee: 561, 17, 91
  • Sumter: 449, 40, 128
  • Troup: 260, 9, 66
  • Crisp: 223, 7, 37
  • Randolph: 173, 19, 32
  • Dooly: 171, 12, 35
  • Macon: 95, 6, 33
  • Harris: 83, 4, 15
  • Meriwether: 78, 2, 11
  • Marion: 49, 2, 9
  • Stewart: 43, 0, 12
  • Clay: 35, 2, 5
  • Talbot: 35, 1, 11
  • Chattahoochee: 25, 0, 5

  • Taylor: 21, 2, 8
  • Schley: 16, 1, 7
  • Quitman: 11, 1, 4
  • Webster: 11, 1, 4

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.

Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.

Alabama

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 14,632 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 1 p.m. EST Monday.

The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 502 while Russell County’s total stands at 128.

There have been 190,315 tests performed statewide. The state reported 560 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday and 1,626 hospitalizations.

The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On Monday, the state reported 7,951 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.
