More than 2,350 coronavirus cases confirmed in Columbus and surrounding counties

Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 2,358‬ coronavirus cases in the 1 p.m. Tuesday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Between 1 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Tuesday, 19 new cases were reported in the 18-county area around Columbus. There are now a total of 128‬ coronavirus-related deaths reported.

Here’s a breakdown by county of total cases, deaths and hospitalizations:

  • Muscogee: 568, 17, 92

  • Sumter: 450, 41, 128

  • Troup: 264, 10, 66

  • Crisp: 223, 7, 37

  • Randolph: 174, 19, 32

  • Dooly: 174, 12, 36

  • Macon: 96, 6, 33

  • Harris: 83, 4, 15
  • Meriwether: 78, 2, 11

  • Marion: 49, 2, 9
  • Stewart: 45, 0, 13

  • Clay: 35, 2, 5
  • Talbot: 35, 1, 11
  • Chattahoochee: 25, 0, 5

  • Taylor: 21, 2, 8
  • Schley: 16, 1, 7
  • Quitman: 11, 1, 4
  • Webster: 11, 1, 4

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.

Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.

Alabama

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 15,311 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 1:45 p.m. EST Tuesday.

The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 513 while Russell County’s total stands at 140.

There have been 193,759 tests performed statewide. The state reported 573 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday and 1,659 hospitalizations.

The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On Monday, the state reported 7,951 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.
