More than 2,400 total coronavirus cases reported in Columbus and surrounding counties
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 2,407 coronavirus cases in the 1 p.m. Wednesday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Between 1 p.m. Tuesday and 1 p.m. Wednesday, 49 new cases were reported in the 18-county area around Columbus. Two new deaths were also reported bringing the total in the area to 128.
Here’s a breakdown by county of total cases, deaths and hospitalizations:

- Talbot: 37, 1, 13
- Chattahoochee: 30, 0, 6
- Taylor: 22, 2, 8
- Schley: 17, 1, 7
- Quitman: 12, 1, 4
- Webster: 11, 1, 4

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
Alabama
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 15,775 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 2:15 p.m. EST Wednesday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 523 while Russell County’s total stands at 144.
There have been 195,794 tests performed statewide. The state reported 581 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday and 1,706 hospitalizations.
The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On Monday, the state reported 7,951 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.
