COVID-19 numbers in the area for June 15
GEORGIA
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 3,946 coronavirus cases in the 3 p.m. Monday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
174 total deaths were reported in the area, an increase of four from Wednesday update.

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
ALABAMA
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 25,892 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 3:35 p.m. EST Monday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 710 while Russell County’s total stands at 298.
There have been 302,294 tests performed statewide. The state reported 769 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday.
The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On June 15, the state reported 13,508 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.

Red Cross now testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies
The American Red Cross is now testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies, the organization announced.
The antibody test used by the Red Cross is authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and may indicate if a person’s immune system produced antibodies to the coronavirus, regardless of whether they developed symptoms.
Donation appointments can be made by downloading the Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo smart speaker device.
Priority COVID-19 testing available for all Georgia first responders
The Georgia Department of Public Health will begin COVID-19 priority testing June 15 for first responders at all specimen points of collection sites throughout the state.
First responders can go to any SPOC, show their official ID and be tested. No appointments are needed.
Columbus Lions’ season canceled
The National Arena League, home of the Columbus Lions indoor football team, officially canceled its season on Friday.
According to the league, multiple scenarios were analyzed including playing all games in one location and the use of strict social distancing strategies. Playing games without fans was ultimately not an option.
The 2021 season is scheduled to kick off next April.
