COVID-19 numbers in the area for June 16
GEORGIA
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 4,072 coronavirus cases in the 3 p.m. Monday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
177 total deaths were reported in the area.

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
ALABAMA
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 26,524 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 5 p.m. EST Tuesday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 739 while Russell County’s total stands at 301.
There have been 305,036 tests performed statewide. The state reported 779 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Tuesday.
The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On June 16, the state reported 13,508 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.

Georgia tests 100% of nursing home residents
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp today announced the Georgia Department of Community Health has reported that 100% of nursing home residents in facilities with 25 or more beds have now been tested for COVID-19.
Across all long-term care facilities with 25 beds or more, 77% of residents and 57% of staff members have now been tested, both of which are up 9% in the last week.
In DCH’s initial recovery report, 2,759 residents had recovered from COVID-19 out of 6,040 cumulative residents who had tested positive, according to a press release. In DCH’s June 15 report, 3,518 residents have recovered from COVID-19 out of 6,402 total residents who have tested positive.
Georgia Power announces special payment options for customers amid COVID-19
On Tuesday, Georgia Power announced special payment options for customers with past-due balances accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Customers who enroll will be able to pay past-due balances over a six-month time frame between October 2020 and March 2021 with no late fees.
The suspension of disconnections was also extended through July 15 to assist customers during the pandemic.
