COVID-19 numbers in the area for June 23
GEORGIA
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 4,921 cases in the 3 p.m. Tuesday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
This is an increase of 306 cases since Monday. 201 total deaths were reported in the area, an increase of 11 deaths since yesterday.
Muscogee and Troup counties had the largest case increases over 24 hours, with 128 and 131 respectively.

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
ALABAMA
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 30,670 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 3:30 p.m. EST Tuesday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 900 while Russell County’s total stands at 378.
There have been 353,611 tests performed statewide. The state reported 854 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Tuesday.
The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On June 23, the state reported 15,974 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.

Country’s Midnight Express canceled
Country’s Barbecue canceled its annual Midnight Express run due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant announced on Facebook.
Country’s plans for the run to return in 2021, according to the post.
District announces plan for Muscogee County high school sports to start practice again
Muscogee County School District announced Monday that high school sports can return in early July.
MCSD set a goal date of July 6 for fall sports only: cheerleading, cross country, football, softball and volleyball. No organized practices, workouts or open gyms may take place before then, the district said in a press release.

Georgia health officials are encouraging anyone who receives a call from the “GA COVID Team” to answer and help contribute to tracking and reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
