COVID-19 numbers in our area for July 9
GEORGIA
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 7,223 cases in the 3 p.m. Thursday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health. This is an increase of 146 cases since Wednesday.
232 total deaths were reported in the area, an increase of three overnight.

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
ALABAMA
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 48,588 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 3:30 p.m. EST Thursday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 1,494 while Russell County’s total stands at 657.
There have been 467,754 tests performed statewide. The state reported 1,042 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Thursday.
The state of Alabama reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On July 9, the state reported 25,783 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.

Feeding the Valley closes for cleaning due to positive COVID-19 test
The coronavirus pandemic temporarily has shut down a Columbus organization on the front line of helping area residents get through this outbreak.
Feeding the Valley is closed this week to thoroughly clean and sanitize its distribution center after at least three people connected to the food bank tested positive for COVID-19.
Those who need food assistance while Feeding the Valley is closed can find the nearest partner agency by typing in their zip code on the organization’s website or call the center at 706-561-4755.
Free COVID-19 testing this Saturday
The Georgia Department of Public Health is once again offering free COVID-19 testing to Georgia residents this Saturday.
Testing will take place at Springfield Baptist Church on 211 Seldon Street in Waverly Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.
