Georgia’s coronavirus case totals update each day at 3 p.m.

St. Francis provides COVID-19 update

Hospitalizations in the area have seen an increase over the last month, according to St. Francis-Emory Healthcare’s Brandon Dawson.

Currently, St. Francis is treating more than 40 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Dawson, the hospital’s medical director of emergency services. Two weeks ago, the hospital saw “over 50 patients” who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Latest COVID-19 numbers for our area

Here are the updated COVID-19 numbers for the Columbus area as of August 4.

GEORGIA

Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 10,820 cases in the 3 p.m. Tuesday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

310 total deaths were reported in the area.

Here’s a breakdown by county of total cases, deaths and hospitalizations:

  • Muscogee: 4390, 83, 469
  • Troup: 2193, 64, 242

  • Sumter: 740, 56, 172

  • Chattahoochee: 665, 1, 10

  • Harris: 626, 16, 69

  • Crisp: 364, 14, 55
  • Meriwether: 358, 6, 46

  • Randolph: 261, 26, 41

  • Stewart: 251, 5, 50

  • Dooly: 242, 14, 47

  • Macon: 174, 10, 39

  • Marion: 145, 4, 15

  • Talbot: 129, 3, 19

  • Clay: 85, 2, 6

  • Taylor: 74, 2, 14

  • Schley: 55, 1, 8

  • Webster: 39, 2, 8

  • Quitman: 29, 1, 6

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.

Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.

ALABAMA

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 90,890 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 3:08 p.m. EST Tuesday.

The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 2,519 while Russell County’s total stands at 1,247.

There have been 719,489 tests performed statewide. The state reported 1,611 total COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday.

The state of Alabama reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On August 4 the state reported 35,401 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.
