Harris County board votes to have youth football after COVID-19 cancellation

Harris County youth football players and cheerleaders might be allowed to have their 2020 season after all.

Two weeks after the Harris County Recreation board tabled the director’s appeal over the season’s cancellation, members overturned the decision Wednesday with a 5-2 vote.

Not so fast, Harris County Parks and Recreation director Stephen Waskey told the Ledger-Enquirer in a phone interview Thursday morning.

The rec board’s authority is only advisory, Waskey said. He still is empowered to keep the season canceled.
