Columbus health department moves COVID drive-thru testing to Civic Center. What to know
As Georgia deals with a surge of coronavirus cases due to the omicron variant, the Columbus Health Department is moving its COVID-19 testing to the Columbus Civic Center parking lot, 400 Fourth St., starting Dec. 30.
The department announced the change in a news release Wednesday.
Drive-thru testing will be conducted Mondays-Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To receive a free coronavirus test, enter the Civic Center parking lot from Lumpkin Boulevard.
Registration at westcentralhealthdistrict.com for testing is preferred but not required.

COVID testing is expected to return to the department’s Veterans Parkway location Jan. 14.
The state plans to deploy the National Guard to hospitals and testing sites to help handle the coronavirus surge, ABC News reported. Georgia set a record of 13,670 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases Tuesday, breaking the previous record of 10,165 set Jan. 8, according to the report.
