5 Questions with Jaelyn Bell: Eight-year-old a budding entrepreneur
How did you come to start your lemonade business?
Light Dreams Lemonade was created by me while playing "store" in my bedroom in 2013. I would ask my mom and dad to come and buy items from me. Each item had price stickers on them, so I would scan them with my play cash register, bag and thank them and also encourage them to return.
I have always wanted to sell lemonade in my neighborhood, so last year my dad received information about the Farmer's Market from a friend. He sat me down and explained to me that I would be the owner and the boss, but he would help me. I registered as a vendor for the 2014 season. Thanks to my mommy and daddy, I am a business owner, which is pretty cool. My lemonade is homemade every Friday night and cost $1 per cup. My website is lightdreamslemonade.com.
What is the best part of working the Uptown Market most weekends?
Meeting new people every week.
How does it feel to be your parents' boss?
It is fun to be their boss because I get to tell them what to do.
Since you started a business in elementary school, what are you plans for middle school and high school?
I plan to continue making the President's List in middle and high school. I would like to continue selling lemonade. I also enjoy making jewelry and have made over 100 pieces, so maybe I will start to selling jewelry too.
What is the best kept secret in the Chattahoochee Valley?
The Columbus Library is awesome!
