Armed robbery suspect pleads not guilty to 4 charges

A Columbus man charged with four counts of armed robbery pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday during a Columbus Recorder’s Court hearing.

 Kenneth A. Shults, 24, also pleaded innocent to one count each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by as convicted felon. He was ordered held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail on the armed robbery charges and bonds were set at $12,500 on the other charges. All the charges were bound over to Superior Court.

Shults was arrested at 9:05 a.m. Monday on outstanding warrants outside a home in the 6700 block of Aldora Drive.

 In an arrest report, police said Shults’ arrest stems from an armed robbery report Sunday on Thornton Drive. Four men, ages 34 to 57-years old, said three young men robbed them around 6:30 p.m. inside a home. Police said the victims were held at gunpoint before they were robbed of $665 in cash and three cell phones valued at $900.

The suspects were described as black and in their 20s. Two were 5 feet, 8 inches tall and one was short, about 5 feet, 1 inches tall. One had numerous tattoos over his face and arms.

A white Dodge Ram with an extended cab and unknown tag was listed as the vehicle used by the robbers.

An investigation continues on the other three suspects in the armed robbery.
