Bones found on construction site near Warm Springs Road

Bones were found Monday on a construction site near Warm Springs Road and 17th Avenue, according to the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office.

Columbus police and the coroner were on the scene around noon to investigate the discovery. Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said he believes they are animal bones.

“They’re not human bones, so we’re all just calling it off,” he said.

Coroner Buddy Bryan said the bones will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for testing.

“That’s what we normally do, unless we can just determine right off the bat that they are animal bones,” he said.

The construction site is part of a road-widening project. It is near a doctor’s office.
