Eufaula’s Beans named small farmers of the year

Russell Bean and his wife Jewel have been named as the 2017 Small Farmers of the Year by the Alabama Natural Resources Conservation Service.

According to a news release, a plaque and engraved special edition bowl were given to the Eufaula, Ala., couple on Dec. 5 at Tuskegee University.

Since 2008, the Beans have made their family operation, S&B Farm a mainstay in the East Alabama community. An 88 acre property, the Beans manage livestock on 20 of them and plasticulture and hoop houses on the rest

Not only have the Beans helped the land on their farm, they have made it their mission to help other small and beginning farmers.
