Columbus Water Works crews are working in the center lane of Second Avenue near Bibb City to repair a reported water leak, according to a spokesman for the utility.

The work is causing some minor traffic issues. The traffic in the northbound lane going toward J.R. Allen Parkway was restricted to one lane for about a quarter of a mile. The work is across from the Second Avenue Animal Hospital.

“It will remain that way until the leak is repaired, which we hope to have completed before 5 p.m. when the traffic picks up,” said Vic Burchfield, Water Works vice president for Information, Security & Environmental Services.

Drivers are urged to use caution when going through the impacted area. About noon, there was a minor fender bender in the northbound lane and both vehicles pulled into the center lane not to halt the flow of traffic.

The leak was reported Monday morning and Water Works crews examined the issue and determined it was a high priority and began work to find and fix it immediately, Burchfield said.

Traffic in the southbound lane going toward downtown is not impacted.
