New Chick-fil-A opens with musical parade of first 100 customers

The new Chick-fil-A restaurant, located at 2730 Manchester Expressway in Columbus, opened its doors to the general public at 6 a.m. Wednesday with music, fanfare, and a cow-led parade of those who waited overnight to be among the first 100 in line and win free Chick-fil-A for a year.

Restaurant workers drummed a beat on pots and pans and cheered as a trumpet player led customers into the store while playing “The Saints Come Marching In.”

“Our founder Truett Cathy said that if you aren’t having fun, you’re not doing something right,” said Alex Vann, the franchise’s owner-operator.

The two-story restaurant includes an interactive indoor play area for children, indoor and outdoor seating, and a “heritage” design that includes handmade, authentic materials like reclaimed wood, subway tiles and light fixtures made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles and peach baskets

About 100 customers camped overnight in the rain to receive free Chick-fil-A for a year. A Chick-fil-A cow high-fived customers as they came into the building for the first time. Vann was giving high-fives right beside him.

“Truly our customers—our guests—are really kind of our family.”
