Water flows through the Government Center fountain again after a Public Works crew sealed the equipment this week.

“It’s got water in it, and we are testing it to make sure that we got all the kinks out,” said director of Public Works Pat Biegler on Friday.

For the first time since it failed early this spring, water was recycling through the fountain Friday and not exiting to the street.

Biegler said the crew will recheck the fountain Monday to make sure there are no other leaks. “They think they got ’em,” Biegler said of the leaks.

After going through the fountain to determine the cause of leaks, Biegler said it was re-coated with a sealer.

“They did three layers, and now they will make sure everything is sealed up properly,” she said. “If it is, we are good to go. If not, we will empty it again and make sure we get whatever is going on.”

When water disappeared from one of the city’s largest fountains, Biegler aimed at getting the favorite spot for photo opportunities back in operation.

“We made it before the end of the month,” she said.
