The final day for the Red Oak Golf Club in Cusseta, Ga. will be July 4.
“It is going to be a sad day,” said Donna Martin on Sunday.
Martin is the longtime clubhouse manager for the public course located about 20 miles from Columbus in Chattahoochee County.
Along with general manager Ben Miller, Martin has been with Red Oak, owned by Lynn Page, since it opened in 1991.
“It is the end of an era. It is hard to express how much sorrow I feel now. It has been a good 26 years. There are going to be a lot of faces I will miss seeing,” Martin said.
She said lack of participation at the course led to the decision to close the club.
“Many golf courses across the nation are struggling,” she said.
She explained that many of the older golfers are dying off or having to quit playing and not enough young people are interested in the sport.
Martin said there are still tee times open for Tuesday.
The course will open at 7 a.m.
