Georgia DOT honored for Brown Avenue Bridge Project in Columbus
The Georgia Department of Transportation had two regional winners in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Official’s 2016 America’s Transportation Awards and one was from Columbus.
According to a report in the Spring 2017 Georgia Milepost Magazine on the Georgia DOT website, the $8.5 million Brown Avenue Bridge Project won in the Small Project Under Budget category.
The project was completed $400,000 under budget.
The project began in 2013 and finished in 2015.
The report said the bridge project on Brown Avenue improved safety and mobility while increasing intermodel access.
The other regional winner was the Broad Avenue Memorial Bridge Reconstruction in Albany, Ga.
It won in the Best Use of Innovation in the small project category. The $14 million project replaced an aging bridge over the Flint River.
