An hours-long standoff at a Cobb County Wells Fargo ended Friday afternoon with the suspect’s death, Cobb police Chief Mike Register said.
The man, identified as Brian Easley, entered the bank earlier Friday morning and apparently began taking hostages. Both he and a bank manager called WSB Channel 2 from inside the bank.
Easley told WSB that he had a bomb, that he was a homeless veteran who had served in Iraq with the Marines, and that he had grievances with various military entities, including the Veterans Administration.
At around 1 p.m., a robot entered the bank and made visual contact with the suspect. Police were able to remove two hostages from the building safely.
The suspect was found dead inside the bank shortly after.
“It appears a member of the tactical team, when we made contact trying to extract the hostages, may have been responsible for the deceased," Cobb police Chief Mike Register said.
The suspect’s backpack was placed in a canister by a bomb disposal robot.
