State to hold open house on Cusseta Road improvement projects
The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold public information session and open house to discuss proposed improvements to sections of Cusseta and Old Cusseta roads.
The project will begin just east of the intersection of Fort Benning Road and Cusseta Road.
It proposes that a roundabout be constructed at the intersection of Cusseta Road and Old Cusseta Road, and a new interchange created for Old Cusseta Road and I-185, with roundabouts located at each entrance and exit ramp. Changes would need to be made to Farr Road to move it away from the new entrance/exit ramps for I-185.
The project will also add a center turning lane, a sidewalk on the north side of the road and a 10-foot-wide mixed-use trail on the south side.
Currently, the stretch of road has one travel lane in each direction, with limited sidewalks. No other automobile travel lanes would be constructed.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, August 29 at the Cusseta Road Child Development Center at 4150 Cusseta Road in Columbus. It will last from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with no formal presentation.
