Eclipse day special for seniors at Farrfield Manor
The last time Dorothy Gamble watched a solar eclipse she was peeking though tiny holes in a paper bag.
“This is so much better, “ she said, gripping her special viewing glasses.
Gamble had been looking forward to Monday’s event for a while.
“It is really exciting,” she said.
The 64-year-old woman was one of about 20 residents of Farrfield Manor, an apartment complex for seniors on Farr Road in Columbus, enjoying the unique occurrence.
Some in the group watched on television and others sat outside on a patio.
The residents enjoyed MoonPies, brownies and tea.
Manor manager Aretha Richards said a few of the residents had been talking about it for a week.
For those who did not have glasses, Richards and her assistant Leisa Kuntz provided a shoe box that had been converted into a viewing tool.
Richards was out getting photos of the eclipse.
A resident Alice Knight, 74, described the eclipse as “amazing.”
“Very few people get to see something like this. I have never seen one,” she said.
Talking about people across the nation watching the eclipse, she remarked, “We all have something in common today.”
Juliette Day, 72, chose to watch it on television. “I like to hear the commentary, see what the scientists say,” she said.
It was a fun day for her.
“It is a natural phenomenon,” Day said. “I will not live long enough to see the next one.”
